What To Do?

I got home from work this evening, and found that the power was out in my building and neighborhood.  I came in and opened all the windows, as it’s still pretty toasty here in.   I laid down on the coach for a minute to think about what to do with the power out, and I fell asleep.   A nap is a perfect thing to do when it’s warm, the power’s out, and you don’t really have any other things pressing on your agenda.

It was a great nap, too.  Great up until the part where I started dreaming that Mama Bear had started dating my ex right after we had broken up.  In a ploy to try to get him back from her, I was following him around throughout the entire dream, groping him completely inappropriately.   I have some of the craziest dreams sometimes.

Weird dream or not, I would still take that nap all over again.  Of course, now I’ll be up pretty late, but so be it.  I’ll catch up on some Netflix now that the power is back on.

Woo Hoo – About Freaking Time

The Supreme Court here in the Golden State has overturned the ban on gay marriage! I would have thought this would have happened a lot sooner in our state, but I’ll take it, any way.

Take that Republicans!

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again – The government should not be dictating morality by sanctioning one marriage over another.  It’s all or none.  One for all and all for one.

Winchester Pic Blog

I didn’t take as many pictures when I was at the Winchester Mystery House on Mother’s Day, as I was just there a few months ago and felt like I took plenty then. I did get these three shots in the garden that I think are pretty damn awesome, though, so I’m just throwing these out there.

I really like this picture of the rose. I might even get it printed out and framed; that’s how much I like it.

If you can’t stop and smell the roses, at least photograph them.

Just sayin’.

Gotta Love an Offshore Flow

Most folks in the Bay (Yay) Area are amateur meteorologists.  That’s due to the fact that the weather here is so freaking, ridiculously, nonsensical.   It’s true that you’re just as likely to need a heavy coat in July as you are in January, and the warmest month of the year is usually either September or October.  We’re surrounded by hills and ocean and bay, so there’s all these little pockets where you never know what might happen.   For the most part, though, it’s usually just about 60, year round, day in and day out.

Then every once in a while, the wind changes direction.  See, that 60 comes from the fact that the wind is blowing in from the ocean, usually bringing cooling fog in with it.  In the summer, the fog is with us in the morning, but burns off in the afternoon for a few hours of decent warmth, before the fog returns in the evening.   That fog is what “they” call the natural air conditioning.   This is more so in The City than in the East Bay where I live, but it’s still not as hot here as in the Central Valley, generally.

However, a few days ago, the winds changed, and are coming out of the East, across greater California, keeping out the cooling fog.  It’s toasty.   I love it.  It’s supposed to be in the 90s in The City tomorrow.  For those of you not so great at math, that’s 30 degrees hotter than normal.  And in the East Bay where I live, it could hit 100.   And to that I say – BRING IT ON!

Just sayin’.

My Second Game of the Season

I went to see the Giants again last night. In case you’re keeping count, that’s two Giants’ games and one A’s game. I am a baseball fiend. I told you I was going to go to more games this year, as I am a crazy single girl, and nothing will come between me and Brian Wilson, except maybe his atrocious facial hair choices.

Anyway, my brother’s boss has season tickets, and he gave a pair to me and my mom last night. We got to see Matt Cain not only pitch a great game, and take the win, but he hit a home run to boot. The only homer for the Giants in yesterday’s match up. Take that Designated Hitter! Cain’s got a batting average of .313. Fred Lewis almost hit for the cycle, hitting a single, double, and a triple. All he needed was that homer. Next time.

I had a really good time, and I got to do some cheering and hollering. I think that was the first time my mom and I went to a ball game together without my dad or brother, which was pretty cool.

Oh, and did I mention that the weather was perfect? ‘Cause it was. No freezing wind for this one.

What to Write?

I don’t really have anything to make up a full post today, so here’s a few interesting tidbits:

  • I’m going to the Giants game tonight with Momser.   Matt Cain is on the mound against the Houston Astros
  • It’s unusually warm in The City today, so much so that I saw a man in a kilt.  You know it’s one thing when the women start wearing skirts, but it’s a whole other level of warmth when the men join in.

And that’s all I got folks.  It’s just a slow news day, and I haven’t seen or done anything that I think is worthy of writing about.  I’ve just been having a very average day.

I’m off work tomorrow to do some more quality time with Momser, too.

I hope the faithful readers are having a more eventful week.

Crazy Single Girl Life, Pt. 2.1 Photo Addendum

Here are the few photos I took on Friday night.

Love Thy Neighbor & Stick It to The Man

I wish I had a camera.   I was just running over to Great Wall on College to pick up some Chinese take out, though, so I didn’t really think I needed it.   I thought I would never find a parking spot over there at that time in the evening, but I had some luck.  Right there on 63rd, around the corner from the restaurant, I found an open spot on the street.

But after I parked, I saw something that made me pause for a second.  On the pole next to my passenger side window, there was a sign that said something about a $48 ticket.   When I got out of the car I took a closer look.

The sign said basically that $48 parking tickets would be issued in that area that day between 12:30 and 3:30.  Since it was closer to 6, I knew I didn’t have anything to worry about.  The sign also said check the posting.  That’s when I noticed the cities posted “No Parking” sign.  Street cleaning is obviously from 12:30 to 3:30, but only the second Monday of the month.  Do you have to carry a calender around to know which Monday it is in order to park legally in Oakland?

Apparently not, because when I looked around, I realized that it wasn’t the only sign.  Someone wanted to make sure that everyone knew not to park on that section of 63rd today.   My first thought was, “What an awesome neighbor!”  My second thought was, “They’re doing a good job of depriving the city of revenue.”   What was the motivation behind the signs?   Maybe it was both.  Either way, I thought it was pretty cool.

Just sayin’.

My Lip is On Fire

I wrote this on Saturday, but I guess I hit save instead of publish, so it’s not as current and “breaking news” as I was hoping it would be.

It’s the best kind of awful sensation I’ve ever loved, to be in physical pain from practicing. I had my second get together with my band today. We really got into some more of working out exactly how things are going to go together on certain songs. I never thought I’d see the day where someone would be truly impressed by anything I could come up with musically. but Ruckus was digging some of what I came up with on one particular song. I wanted to do back flips, but I think I did a good job of playing it cool.

Even if it wasn’t fulfilling to hang out and jam with those guys, they’re all pretty cool, too. I would probably hang out with them just to hang out with them. They had me cracking up in full gerbil laugh mode. In case you didn’t know, and they didn’t before today, when I laugh really hard, I squeak like a small rodent.

The giggles were brought on by our further attempts to find a name for this damn band and the ruminations on penis jokes that that inspired. The name I came up with last week was so cool that it’s already been taken by a trio in Canada, so it’s back to the drawing board on that.

I’m sure there will be many more stories to tell.

Mom’s In Town

Mom got in on Saturday night, and we spent yesterday together, and even saw my brother for a while. We went to the Winchester Mystery House, because it’s something she had always wanted to do. This was the second time I had been there this year, and it was just as cool the second time around. I love that house, and I still say that I want to be just like Sara Winchester when I grow up.

So, this is going to be a crazy week in a different sense. Lots of family stuff, and probably a lot of running around. We’re going to get me a sewing machine so that I can become just as crafty as Mom. Actually, that’s not humanly possibly, I don’t think. My mom is pretty damn crafty. I just want to be able to make a curtain to cover the ugly bars in my bathroom and some cushions for my window bench. Maybe I’ll progress some day to making some clothing.

Also on the agenda is going out to eat at places my dad wouldn’t want to go to, like for Indian. I think it’s hilarious that my mom wants to do this. It just goes to show that it’s always good to have some time to do your own thing, even after 37 years. Yeah, they’ve been married that long. I don’t know if that gives me hope or scares the crap out of me, to be honest.
