Here is another book review I did on YouTube. I was kind of rushing when I shot the video, so I don’t think it came out as well. I am still learning about how to do this. Also, lots of really entertaining hand gestures in this one, I gotta say. Please enjoy responsibly.
I guess I’ve sort of abandoned this blog. The reason is mostly that my life is pretty boring right now, and I don’t have anything to write about. I’m still at my parents’ house, and have been for over three weeks. My dad went into the hospital for surgery to remove his tumor almost two weeks ago, and he’s not recovering very well. They’re going to be transferring him from one hospital to another where there’s a rehab clinic. Hopefully they’ll be able to get him up and he’ll get his strength back.
So basically, I get up every day, and I log on to my work laptop and the VPN, and I work as if I’m in the office. Then at noon, I take my mom over to the hospital, and hang out for ten or fifteen minutes before leaving her there. Then I come home, and do more work until about 5:30 when I go back to the hospital. I don’t really hang out there very long, because mostly my dad is just sleeping a lot.
In the evenings I have dinner with Mom, and then we retire to separate corners of the house to relax. I’ve been reading a lot. I’ve read six books since I’ve been here. I’m halfway through the sixth of the seven Harry Potter books.
So, there’s just nothing all that exciting going on in Whoville. Or rather the things I have to get excited about mostly have to do with my dad’s digestive track, and I assume no one wants to read about that.
The last week or so, I pretty much have been loving staying home by myself. I guess I’ve finally completely adjusted to living alone. All I’ve wanted to do this week is rush home from work to be alone. And while I’ve been alone, I’ve been reading a couple of books, “The Left Hand of Darkness” by Ursula K LeGuin and “The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe” by C.S. Lewis.
I’ve also been napping. Usually from falling asleep when I’m reading. I get home. Flop down on the couch, pick up the book, and half an hour later, I’m out. An hour after that, I wake up and pick up where I left off.
Of course, not today, ’cause when I got home, I wanted to check some social networking sites. And then of course, there’s this other occupation:
So, there you go. Doesn’t it sound thrilling?
OK, no, it totally doesn’t, but it is quite pleasant and I am enjoying myself.
It’s a well established fact that I am a nerd. An exceptionally booky nerd. A nerd with a massive appetite for the written word.
Right now, I’m in the middle of reading four books –
Sense and Sensibility, by Jane Austen
Everyday Zen: Love & Work by Charlotte Jojo Beck (my dad recommended and loaned this one to me)
Jaywalking with the Irish by David Monagan
Foods to Fight Cancer by Richard Believeau, Ph.D. and Denis Gingras, Ph.D.
Maybe I should just try to finish one.
Or maybe I should pick up some fluffy summer read and add it to the pile.
Or maybe I should stop blogging, and open one of them.
OR I could just embrace the insanity and join a book club, too.
Anyway, they’re all pretty decent so far, and I recommend them all. I just wish I had one more bookmark. This is why people keep giving me their business cards, though, right?
